Pakistan's celebrated humanitarian Edhi passes away


Islamabad, Jul 9 (IANS): Pakistan's celebrated humanitarian and Edhi Foundation Chairman Abdul Sattar Edhi has passed away at the age of 92 in Karachi, his son said on Saturday.

Sattar Edhi passed away on Friday night at a hospital in Karachi, Dawn online quoted his son Faisal Edhi as saying.

His funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon, his son said.

Edhi was heading a foundation which supported thousands of needy people and children. He was conferred several highest national civilian awards due to his services for humanity.

The Edhi Foundation is one of Pakistan's largest public welfare organisations and runs one of the biggest fleets of ambulances, dozens of clinics and orphanages in the country.
