Modi condemns Istanbul airport attack


New Delhi, Jun 29 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condemned an attack on Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Tuesday evening that killed 36 people and injured over 145 others.

"Attack in Istanbul is inhuman and horrific. I condemn it strongly. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that no Indian was reported among the casualties.

The MEA also tweeted emergency helpline numbers for Indians stuck at Istanbul airport.

"Terror attack at Istanbul Atatrk Airpt. Entry /Exit pts shut. Indians req assist, pls call 90-530-5671095/8258037/4123625," the Embassy of India in Ankara, tweeted.

"You may also contact First Secretary, Embassy of India, Ankara at 05303142203," it said in another tweet.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim blamed the Islamic State (IS) for the attacks.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
