J&K deputy speaker asks government to 'remove' senior IAS officer

Srinagar, June 27 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir assembly Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmad Gurezi on Monday directed the state government to shift a senior IAS officer for his alleged involvement in the suicide attempt by a woman colleague.

An IAS officer working as a district magistrate in the Valley was alleged to have attempted suicide by cutting her wrist on June 17. The cabinet which met here on Sunday transferred her our of the state.

Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Javaid Mustafa Mir on Monday raised the issue in the assembly seeking action against another senior IAS officer, whom he alleged, was involved in the suicide attempt.

He also wanted to know whether police had lodged an FIR into the officer's suicide attempt or not.

Mir also claimed the matter had also come up for discussion during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here on Sunday.

Gurezi said that the issue was sensitive and directed the state government to "remove" the senior IAS officer as he cannot continue to head an administrative department that has "such a large number of women workforce".
