Jaitley accuses Congress of delaying economic reforms

New Delhi, June 26 (IANS) : With nearly a month left for the start of the monsoon session of Parliament, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday accused the Congress of delaying the much-awaited economic reforms in the country.

"If one looks back at the Congress history after Independence, the blots on it are delay in economic reforms by over two decades, transformation of India into a dynastic democracy, the imposition of Emergency in 1975, Operation Blue Star and corruption," Jaitley said in a blog written on the 41st anniversary of the imposition of Emergency by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Jaitley questioned various decisions taken by the Congress, especially by Indira Gandhi which, according to him, proved to be politically counter-productive for the party.

"I wonder whether the current Congress leadership has a view on this subject. Will the Congress have an internal debate on these issues," the minister said.

Jaitley's assault is seen as another attempt to marginalise the opposition Congress who which has been blocking the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Bill in Parliament for a year.

While the central government is trying to garner support for the early passage of the constitutional amendment bill, the Congress wants the government to accept its proposed changes to the bill in lieu of its support.

The monsoon session of Parliament is expected to start in the third week of July.

In his blog, the minister accused the Congress of turning the country into a totalitarian state during the Emergency.

"The impact of the Emergency was to inflict a dictatorship on the country. All political opponents were detained. The authority of the courts to hear a challenge against the detentions was suspended. The Supreme Court caved in before the dictator. The Press was subjected to pre-censorship. The Press became a spokesperson of the dictator," Jaitley said.

The minister said that the collapse of the media and the Supreme Court before the dictatorship was the most significant phenomenon of that time.

I have a small information to share :
    Quote

Dona Paula (Goa): Veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Saturday tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, saying there is no dialogue and they may meet the same fate as the Indira Gandhi-led Congress which was drubbed in the elections after Emergency.

“There is absolutely no scope of no dialogue… This is the great strength of Indian democracy. There will be aberrations here and there, there might be concerns about the present situation. But the great Indian society will take care of it and consign to dust those who do not believe in dialogue in India,” Sinha said.

“The people of India will consign him to the dust, you just have to wait for the next elections,” Sinha, who was finance minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, said without naming Modi.
    Unquote

If this can come from a veteran BJP Ex-Minister, those who chant 'NaMo' 'NaMo' have a lot to learn about the dictator in coming days !

Rightly Said, Just Scratching the Old wounds what BJP want to prove. Either they want to hide their wounds or they want to scratch old wound till it bleeds. Both ways wounds will be exposed sooner or later and would need emergency medical treatment.

This reminds me of very old song

Jaitley need not blame Congress for delaying economic reforms

People of this country have known this and thats why Congress became 44 seats from 216 in 2014, also lost 8 states since 2014. If the party continues to toe anti development mode just for its hate & frustration of Modi, then Congress Mukth Bharat is imminent in 2019

Who voted for Congress to lose seats ? PEOPLE ! Who are suffering ? PEOPLE ! Who will realise their mistake and undo it ? PEOPLE !

Therefore, let Jootley and Moody continue fooling people, because people are as desperate the ruling party is, and the time left is just two-and-half years !

Mark my words, there is quite a task (in terms of economics) for the next government, to undo the degradation BJP did in just one term !

Whether you brand it misrule or worst, honestly MMS had the poor in his mind when he drafted economic policies, not the affluent like Adanis, Ambanis, Bata or Bata !

What nonsense is jaitley talking. I think he must be also holding a fake degree certificate. How can congress delay economic reforms when it is holding not more than 60 seats and BJP is holding absolute majority. It is time for people to know that BJP leaders have no brains and they are anti intellectual. PM made a travel all over the world and still jaitley says economic reforms are getting delay because of congress. Feel like laughing at their irresponsible statements.

With Jaitly’s party throwing in spanner in the works the delay was unavoidable during congress rule, still all the groundwork was done by MMS. Now having won the absolute majority, all this party has to do is to maintain whatever MMS has started and even they tried any deviations, we know within no time they HAD to take Uturns, Aadhar being just an example.

One the one hand this gentleman's party keeps on claiming that Congress has disappeared as a political force.

But when it comes to the ruling Government's continuous failures to achieve anything well over two years, it tries to hang those failures on Congress.

Indians are well-aware that Mr Jaitley provoked the others into constant disruption of the parliament when UPA-2 was the Government. Mr Jaitley not only opposed everything that the UPA-2 (which included several parties) proposed, but he went about creating many scare tactics for the media and the general public.

And when, mainly due to Mr Jaitley's disruption tactics, UPA-2 could not proceed with the business, Mr Jaitley's party accused the UPA-2 of "policy paralysis".

But Congress had (and still has) some very highly educated policy makers. BJP has people who claim all sorts of education qualifications, but no one knows how to track their certificates.

People have given you majority mandate !!!

More than two years have passed now and your government enjoyed with the "Oil Money" without passing the real benefits to the consumers/electorate of this country who have reposed faith in your "FEKU" party...and rest of the two years in government YOU will have to PAY for the surging oil prices now onwards....

And there comes the final year (5the Year) You will show some results and your government would be busy then, to prepare for the next general election!!!

People were fed-up of congress, therefore, they brought them down to earth and elected B.J.P. But what are they doing other than digging the dead body. Only $ 55 billion in two years.

The fake political rhetoric of massive inflow of foreign capital was simply to bluff the electorate of India. Modiji's electoral promises will not work in the foreign land. Now all the fault at the Congress party.

Jaitly, BJP and his band wagon, was delaying every move UPA was proposing. Nuclear Deal strikes out even those who dont watch political developments so closely.

BJP is the main party who were opposing development, be it computers, nuclear deal, NAREGA, Aadhar, RTI, RTE practically everything.

Everyone knew BJP, therefore, a new appolitical organization was formed in the name of fighting corruption. Kiran Bedi, VK Singh, Hazare, Kejriwal, Hegde with strong RSS links. Today, many got plum posting for compromising on their integrity.
But India lost in the process.

No Lokpal, No black money returned, No politicians behind bars, No trace of looted 1.76lakh crore, 1.86lakh crore, 70k crore of CWG.
