16 Taliban militants killed in US drone strike

Kabul, June 26 (IANS): Sixteen Taliban militants were killed in a US drone attack in Afghanistan's Kunduz province, a military statement said on Sunday.

"A senior Taliban leader named Mullah Jannat Gul along with 15 of his men were killed after a drone struck two vehicles along a road in Quash Tipa, Chahar Dara district on Saturday night," said the statement issued by the Afghan army's Division 20 Pamir stationed in the region.

The insurgents tried to relocate but the struck came after a tip-off confirmed the movement of the militants, Xinhua news agency reported citing the statement as saying.
