Cambodian PM fined for not wearing helmet

Phnom Penh, Jun 23 (IANS): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen was fined by police for not wearing a helmet during a motorbike ride. He publicly apologized for his mistake.

A traffic police officer issued a traffic ticket on June 18 in Koh Kong province to Hun Sen for violating the traffic law and fined him 15,000 riel ($3.75), Xinhua news agency reported.

"Please go to pay the fine in Phnom Penh," the officer said.

Hun Sen wrote on his Facebook page late Wednesday that he would pay the fine.

Hun Sen traveled to Koh Kong on June 18 and he unexpectedly visited a motor-taxi driver on the road side and rode the motorbike with the motorbike owner for fun for about 250 meters without wearing a helmet.
