22 killed, 200,000 displaced in China floods


Beijing, June 20 (IANS): At least 22 people were killed and nearly 200,000 displaced in China due to heavy rains that began on Saturday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Monday.

According to the Ministry, a total of 197,000 people were displaced and 3.7 million people in seven provinces affected, Xinhua news agency reported.

Twenty people were still missing, it said.

Direct economic losses from the floods amounted to almost 2.68 billion yuan (about $407.9 million), the ministry said.
