Moscow, June 19 (IANS): Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu met in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his portfolio's press office said on Saturday.
"Topical issues concerning military cooperation between the two countries' defence ministries, as well as certain aspects of cooperation in the fight against terror groups that are active on Syrian territory, were discussed at the meeting," Efe news quoted Defense Ministry spokesman as saying.
During his visit to Syria, Shoygu inspected Russia's Khmeimim airbase in western Syria, where Russian air force personnel supporting the Syrian army in its anti-terrorist struggle are headquartered.
