Internet services suspended in Jammu

Jammu, June 15 (IANS): Authorities on Wednesday suspended Internet services here to check the spread of rumours in the wake of violence a day earlier.

"We have decided to suspend Internet services in the city till the situation improves," District Magistrate Simrandeep Singh told reporters.

Singh, however, denied that curfew had been imposed in the area where tension escalated on Tuesday after two youths allegedly vandalized an ancient Hindu temple in Roop Nagar area.

A mob then torched three vehicles, including two school buses belonging to a police public school.

Police arrested a youth in this connection.

"The situation has started improving and there is no spread of tension to any other area in the city," a police officer told IANS.
