Protests in Jammu after alleged desecration of temple

Jammu, Jun 15 (PTI ) : An ancient temple in Jammu was today allegedly vandalised by a "mentally-disturbed" man, triggering protests in which a mob attacked a police station and set some vehicles on fire, police said.

The man allegedly entered the Aap Shambu temple in Roopnagar area of Janipur in the evening and broke some items and windowpanes, a police officer said, adding, he has been arrested.

Following the incident, people in large number came on to the streets and held protests demanding immediate arrest of the accused, he said.

The protesters also resorted to stone-pelting and set three vehicles on fire in the area, police said.

"They (mob) attacked the police station and set some vehicles on fire," Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said.

He said a large number of police personnel have been deployed in the state and some stone-pelters and arsonists have also been arrested.

"A case has been registered and the accused has been arrested. He is mentally disturbed and had come to the area to see a psychiatrist," the officer said.

"Right now the situation is tense but calm, people became aggressive as some people were under the influence of alcohol," Singh said.

He said police had to resort to light cane charge and lob a few tear-gas shells to control the mob.

"The one who tried to vandalise the religious place has also been arrested," the deputy commissioner said.

He also said, a police officer who earlier "did not take action" against the man who allegedly vandalised the temple, has been suspended.

There are more vandalism these days on Churches across the country from mentally stable people. But minority never took to the street and called for bandh.

The BJP is coalition part number in Jammu and Kashmir assembly. It will utilize the every oppourtiunity to vitigate the pecauful atmosphere to create a devisive force which in turn will help them in elections.

From political platform they organise Babri Masjid demolition and left one of the bloodiest trail of history post independence.

Moreover all those involved, climbed to success in politics over the dead.Interestingly no one is convicted to date.

lydia madam where it the same drunkards. i totally condemn the church attack what happened in mangaluru years ago. it was a shameful act but a group of people and not the entire community. back people protested for it and wen the mob got out of control there was a clash between police and the protesting mob.
here too similar thinks happened but the police is saying that protesting people were drunk and the accused was a psycho

    Guru,

Drunkards vandalised Church belongings over unpaid salary in Mangaluru (Panir), not in Delhi !

The drunkard had God (of-course others' not his) or an image in his mind, not the person who agreed a rate with him. He knew if he encounters a live person in a groggy state, his limbs will be detached - so he attacked a statue. Whats his fault ?

    RnS,

Then, why are Hindus from Pak and Bangladesh are given leniency in visa rules ? Let the government flush out the disputed communal region's occupants first, and then invite refugees ?? Does the central have any guts ?

If you have no guts now, so did you have no guts to live in the region you belonged to. They got intimidated upon being threatened which is the reason for their present state !

Look at a BHP minister ! He claimed exodus of Hindus from Kairana. To see several of them are still there, many had left before 20 years due to education/job or several had died long ago !

There is a limit to cry wolf !
