Congress may back move to challenge Haryana RS result in court

New Delhi, Jun 15 (IANS): The Congress indicated it may back party-supported independent candidate R.K. Anand's intention to move court against the victory of his BJP-backed rival Subhash Chandra to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana.

"What BJP did in Haryana was a criminal conspiracy. They managed amd manipulated state machinery to win that election. The pen that was to be used to caste the votes in polling station was changed thrice," Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters at party headquarters here.

"The way BJP abused the state machinery for these Rajya Sabha elections show their hunger for power," he said, adding: "BJP will do anything to get to power."

Meanwhile, Anand, who was supported by both the INLD and the Congress, said that he will file an FIR and move the court in this case as BJP backed candidate has stolen the election.

Congress sources said "the party may back Anand in his fight against the BJP."

The votes of 14 Congress MLAs were declared invalid leading to the loss of Anand who was otherwise expected to win this election.

The Congress has already approached the Election Commission accusing Chandra, a media baron, of “playing fraud on the democracy and Constitution”.

"If Election Commission does not respond to our query we may back Anand in the legal course," said the party source.
