Myanmar to export anti-venom to Asian countries

Nay Pyi Taw, Jun 13 (IANS): Myanmar is planning to export anti-venom to neighbouring Asian countries this year, the media reported on Monday.

U Ko Ko Aung, General Manager of the government-owned Myanmar Pharmaceutical Factory, said the exporting products are waiting to be checked by the World Health Organization, Xinhua news agency reported.

The factory has increased the anti-venom production with the aim of bringing down the country's high rate of snakebite fatalities.

About 10,000 snakebite incidences occur every year across the country, especially in rural areas.

The factory manufactured about 80,000 doses of liquid and freeze-dried venom for cobras and vipers in the last fiscal year 2015-2016.
