Four killed, four injured in Shanghai airport explosion

Beijing, June 12 (IANS): At least four people were killed and four others injured on Sunday in a blast at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport, local media said.

A beer bottle packed with home-made explosives was detonated in the check-in area of Terminal 2, Sputnik News reported.

After the explosion, the suspected attacker took a knife from his backpack, and tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat. He was hospitalised in "serious condition", according to reports.

The wounded suffered minor injuries. One of the injured is from the Philippines.

Police cordoned off the area.

Some flights were affected as their passengers were scheduled to check in at the explosion site. The airport has since begun running normal operations, said officials.
