Over 36,000 candidates clear IIT JEE Advance 2016


New Delhi, June 12 (IANS): Over 36,000 candidates cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2016 for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) whose results were announced on Sunday.

Aman Bansal from Jaipur in Rajasthan secured the top rank in the IIT-JEE Advanced examination.

Bhavesh Kumar from Yamuna Nagar in Haryana stood second and Kunal Goel from Jaipur third.

There were 1,55,948 students who registered for the IIT JEE entrance exam this year, out of which 1,47,678 actually appeared for the test.

Only 36,566 of them managed to pass the examination.

Riya Singh from Kota in Rajasthan was the topper among girls with All India Ranking of 133.

Animesh Bohara was the topper in Delhi with All India Ranking of 19.

This year, the JEE Main exams were conducted in both online and offline format. The offline test was conducted on April 3 whereas the online test for Paper 1 and Paper 2 was held on April 9 and April 10, respectively.

The entrance was held in 132 cities across the country.

The exam was organised by IIT-Guwahati in collaboration with the Joint Admission Board 2016 (under the Ministry of Human Resource Development) across various centres throughout the country for admission to various engineering courses.
