Babri demolition, Godhra riots led youths to al Qaeda: Police

New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI): Indians joining al Qaeda were moved by the 1992 Babri mosque demolition and 2002 Godhra riots and were committed to establish base of terror outfit al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) here, Delhi Police has told a court here.

In its charge sheet filed against 17 accused, Special Cell of Delhi Police said for the purpose of jihad, some of them had gone to Pakistan and had met Jamat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and several other dreaded terrorists.

"While delivering jihadi speeches in various mosques, he (arrested accused Syed Anzar Shah) met Mohd Umar (one of the absconding accused) and they discussed atrocities on Muslims in India, especially Godhra and Babri Masjid issues.

"Umar got impressed with his jihadi ideology and speeches and committed himself to the cause of jihad and expressed the desire to receive arms/ammunition training from Pakistan," the charge sheet filed before Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh said. It said that Umar was operating from Pakistan.

Police said arrested accused Abdul Rehman had provided safe hideouts in India to Pakistani militants Salim, Mansoor and Sajjad, all members of Jaish-e-Mohammed, who were later killed in a shootout in Uttar Pradesh in 2001.

These three Pakistani militants had come to India to take revenge of Babri Masjid demolition and had planned to attack Ram Mandir in Ayodhya but got killed, the charge sheet claimed.

The police named in its charge sheet 17 accused, 12 of whom are absconding, for allegedly conspiring, recruiting Indian youths and establishing a base of AQIS here.

In its final report, the agency has charged five arrested accused -- Mohd Asif, Zafar Masood, Mohd Abdul Rehman, Syed Anzar Shah and Abdul Sami -- for alleged offences under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

All the 17 accused were listed in the charge sheet for alleged offences under sections 18 (punishment for conspiracy), 18-B (punishment for recruiting of any person for terror act) and 20 (punishment for being member of terror organisation) of the UAPA.

The accused were arrested between December 2015 and January 2016 from different parts of the country.

The probe agency has alleged that al Qaeda was trying to set up its base in India under the banner of AQIS and some youths from districts of western Uttar Pradesh had already left India and joined its cadre in Pakistan.

It said that one of the modules of the outfit was active in Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh.

It alleged that the accused were in touch with terrorists from Pakistan, Iran and Turkey via social media and mobile phones, and they had visited these countries and had also financed AQIS and motivated the youths for jihad.

Besides the five arrested accused, the agency also named in its charge sheet 12 others who are at large and the court had earlier issued non-bailable warrant against them.

The absconding accused are Syed Akhtar, Sanaul Haq, Mohd Sharjeel Akhtar, Usman, Mohd Rehan, Abu Sufiyan, Syed Mohd Arshiyan, Syed Mohd Zishan Ali, Sabeel Ahmed, Mohd Shahid Faisal, Farhatullah Ghori and Mohd Umar.

The FIR in the present case was registered after arrest of Asif on December 14 last year.

For fair thinking this theory is Insane, but for fanatics this is bitterly true.

Religion being a personal matter should be followed within one's home or within the walls of Temples, Mosques or Churches for one to be in Peace and move forward & forward.
If it is brought outside to the streets, one naturally will face the reactions, obviously no peace and moving only backwards.

And politicians only take advantage of fanaticism and actually not the main reasons for it.

Mixing religion with politics and whipping religious sentiments during elections to polarise votes have taken a toll ensuring Unity in Diversity. Babri demolition and Godhra riots bled the nation and divided the country on religious lines and gave room for fundamentalism. Atleast now the politicians should not meddle with religion.

Babri demolition, Godhra riots may have led youths to al Qaeda, BUT WHETHER IT IS RIGHT?
If Babri demolition was not right, youths led to Al Queda, ISIS also is not right!
Two wrongs will not make one right.
What was right is, Paris attacker was traced and killed,
Osama bin Laden harborer was asked to return,
Since re was handed over, war was waged on that country,
    Osama was tracked and killed.

Well sad bhakts are claiming why Kashmiri hindus didn't pick up arm...why would they pick up arm..did our establishment target Kashmiri hindus.......to understand Kashmiri strife you need to understand maharaj gulab Singh who Kashmiris consider as coward..Instead of defending his people he fled somewhere else....and that is the beginning of strife ...
Why would someone pick up arm ...it is when state at the top instigates riots and massacres...
Hindus are persecuted in Pakistan this is true fact..
Eventhough Pakistan is failed state have you seen any political parties instigating massacres at top...?that is where difference lies..Persecution of minorities there are generally done by rogue elements...not directly by the state...
Don't claim only we treat better..don't be under such delusion....minorities are never treated well be it Pakistan,Bangladesh,India,Myanmar,Sri lanka or China...
Not everyone would pick up arm...bhakts are silent on rohingyas being one of the most persecuted minorities of the modern world..not according to some mullah but according to U.N...did any rohingyas pick up arm against Buddhist majority being one of the worst persecuted minorities in the modern world...?It is not some rogue elements commiting violence there but directly backed by state...In syria,Iraq,Nigeria it is generally done by rogue elements not by state.....Problem arise when state initiate and instigate a riots...Well some people may find it difficult coz they want to save their dear leader and their party's history...

Hindus are under big threat not only now since last many centuries. Hindus have been looted, raped and converted. Another 50 years majority becomes minority and before that there will be many communal fights instigated by politicians and religious heads. Hindus have no place to go but die silently while others have their own neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Bangkadesh.Even now you can see minority try to bully Hindus. God only save India from extremists.

Babri demolition did had some impact like a divide within society, but I don't think that really lead youth to Al Qaeda.
Since it was waning after few months of hot debate, underworld got involved to get the fire lit again.

I do think, the real culprit of many of the muslim youth associated with Al Qaeda was post godra. When the incident happened burning of train, entire nation was against the people who burned the train. Muslims expected riots immediately after the incident. What shocked them and the entire nation was Modi govt indulged itself in riots with police. This is the turning point, when it comes to why many average muslims turned into terrorist organizations. Because, they started to believe there is nobody to protect them.

One was dy.PM and waiting another hefty post, another was ex cm who has given a undertaking to the court that demolition of masjid won't happen and being cm he will take care of that. but he has been promoted as governor of another state. our ex PM is in the bed and Govt, is looking after his expenses. another lady sanyasi also promoted in current cabinet.when any community is not getting justice in established judiciary system of country then they will take extreme step and act of revenge.so the police observation is is not untrue.

I agree the demolition of Babri Masjid has brought a deep divide between Hindus and Muslims. The incidence has affected even the interior villages in India. Hindus are the sole reason for this..of course not all Hindus.

Same way the Godra train burning lead to another massive riot which tore apart the remaining trust between Hindus and Muslims. And Muslims were sole reason for this riot..of course not all Muslims.

However gravely these incidences have affected any individual, it in no way an excuse for anyone to join Al Queda.

I don't agree with this theory. It is just an excuse. If this police theory justifies people joining Al Qaeda, then when hundres of temples were destroyed in Kashmir, priests were dragged out and murdered mercilessly and also recently in Bangladesh these people mercilessly murdered the HIndu priest.Bamiyana Buddha's statue was totally destroyed. So,does this gives Hindu and buddhist young men any moral right and justification to join destructive forces?

Shenoy, you are right..... Due to the mentality / actions of few people , the whole community is getting blamed, which is not correct.... See the number of people who are joining such forces..... handful of numbers.... Such youths are driven by the partiality of Police and the failure of the govts to give social justice.....

Agreed! Police theory cannot be generalised. Youth joining terrorists groups has more to do with the social media – the radical websites and the fanatical preachers who have virtually brainwashed them.

Bamiyan Buddha statues demolished by Stupid Taliban. To protest such act, there are no Buddhist left in Afghanistan.
If they have kept those statues, Buddhist tourism would have been flourished now.
See Egypt, what all things they have kept even from the time of Pharaoh. Now, they are enjoy the benefits.
People do not know the benefit and value of Historical monuments.
