Two killed as under-construction building collapses

Hyderabad, June 11 (IANS): Two workers were killed and seven others injured when a portion of an under-construction building collapsed in the old city of Hyderabad on Saturday, police said.

The slab of the school building caved in within hours of being laid in the early hours of the day, killing two labourers.

Seven others including the site engineer were injured and were admitted to the Osmania General Hospital.

Officials said the deceased were identified as Nandu and Venkataiah, both from Mahbubnagar district.

The incident occurred in Qabootarkhana in Hussainialam area near the Charminar as the labourers were engaged in the construction of the school of Maheshwari Trust.

Police said the trust did not have permission from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for building the school. A case between the trust and GHMC over the ownership of the land was pending in the court.

Police registered a case against the trust for rash and negligent act resulting in the deaths.
