US companies investing $ 45 bn in India: John Chambers

Washington, June 8 (IANS) : Members of the US-India Business Council have already invested $28 billion in India since September 2014 and another $45 billion is in the pipeline, Council Chairman John Chambers told Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

"In September 2014, USIBC members indicated an investment figure of $41 billion that was likely to be invested over a 2-3 year period. Today I'm happy to announce that in less than two years, about 20 percent of USIBC members have already invested $28 billion," Chambers said.

"In next 2-3 years, we will see this pace accelerating -- again with 20 percent of our members indicating that USIBC members are on track to invest an additional $45 billion, which is a conservative estimate," he added.

Chambers met Prime Minister Modi just after his roundtable with USIBC members, which included the top brass of companies like PepsiCo, Master Card, Warburg Pincus, Lockheeed Martin, Boeing, Westinghouse, Intelsat, Emerson and 8Minute Energy.

The prime minister also presented the USIBC Global Leadership Awards to Dilip Shangvhi of Sun Pharmaceuticals and Jeff Bezos of Amazon.

According to Vikas Swarup, Spokesperson for India's foreign office, the prime minister outlined the strengths of Indian economy and its talented workforce to the chief executives and discussed with them the prospects for solar energy and digital connectivity.

Later at a gala in his honour, Modi lauded the contributions of the Indian diaspora in the US and said a partnership between the American capital and innovation, with Indian human resources and entrepreneurship can prove a powerful combination.

He also used the platform to emphasise that emerging economies also have a legitimate wish list for the rich nations. "It is very important for us that developed countries also open their markets, not only to goods from countries like India but also to services," said Modi.

"India is much more than a market. India is a reliable partner. It is a source of high quality scientific, engineering and managerial talent," he said, adding: "We are encouraging foreign and domestic investors to set up high quality and efficient manufacturing facilities."

On his part, he also promised disciplined macro economic policies, gender justice and empowerment, social security net and inclusive growth, while assuring that major steps had been taken to curb corruption, which was one of the main concerns and constraints in India.

"This brings me to an achievement that I think even our worst critics do not dispute," he said at the gala, where a host of top US political figures joined the business leaders to toast Modi.

Members of the US-India Business Council have already invested $28 billion in India since September 2014 and another $45 billion is in the pipeline, Council Chairman John Chambers told Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
By reading the top news it seems like it is all fake 28bn is not invested further more nothing will come up, it is just to say they are going to invest 45bn. Why does John has to tell Modi what is invested and what is going to be invested is Modi sleeping? is he not doing is job well or it is a proof no investment is come? He is head of the country so he as full record who is doing what, beside our youths still have no jobs plus the laborers are waiting for work/jobs.
Unlucky PM talks too much but no result. Ex PM Manmohan quiet as dumb but too many things worked.

@Krish, Dubai: When we comment publicly something we have to use our common sense if we have some. The question you raised "why didnt raise ur hand against rahuls 56 days lavish tour?" is a nonsense because Pappu did not spent 56 days at the expense of tax payers but from his pocket. He is a MP and he gets salary. If you want to spend your money in Dubai, India or Singapore, no one should be asking you why did you spend your money there , it's your money and you're boss.

    Dear Ashwin,
RTI is proved that he spent on govt money.

Being of party u will say even he visited USA last year to attend conference (which was finished 1 month before he travel) also from his pocket.

And More over if you had same common sense you will not say Modi is travelling for Sight seeing or Lavish, as eve a buddu can understand in 6 days, 5 country how a man can go for sight seeing. More over Media is with him only always, did you see any news that he went to Massage center????

So i hope your common sense will start work now after reading this.

@Krish, it is very hard to convince a bhakth in first place. China was behind India when it comes to development and FDI. Chinese President did not go on world tour rather he asked to arrange China Fair by its embassies worldwide. The result is every MNC's opened their outlets in China in spite of the language barrier. WE have embassies worldwide and we DO HAVE a foreign minister who can manage external affairs. We have a defense minister who should be dealing with defense matters not BUYING FISH in Goa. PM should be visiting important countries and now going on world tour. Do you know in 2 years how many times he visited US?? Do you need to visit each country every 6 months to bring FDI to India? Do you have any numbers for the days he spent in India for the last 2 years? He spent more days outside India than inside. he was not able to open his mouth when there were so many things going wrong, he was in Kashmir when Terrorists attacked but he was attending a function to honour the father- in-law of Jootley and was busy talking about Daamad. Is he in India only for election speeches?? He came with so many promises like black money, 15 lakhs, jailing Sonia and Vadra, no corruption ..etc.. but there were few corruptions took place in these 2 years and he was/is silent. He don't even know how much black money is abroad, Sonia and Vadra are still free. Italians Marines left India but the same man was shouting when SC granted another marine to leave India. He was shouting about sales tax, rupee value, nuclear deal, Aadhar when he was not in power but what happened now.can you tell me what happened to Augusta now?? Why no action against LaMo, Mallya. Why Ambani and Adani is getting all contracts of the central govt.

Can you show me that link for the RTI you have about Thailand trip, and which government approved it??

RBI guv Rajan has made a very sensible and realistic statement today: 'At 1.5k$ per capita we are still a poor economy. It takes a per capita of 6 to 7k $ to wipe out tear from every eye, provided the 6 K to 7k $ per capita is EVENLY DISTRIBUTED.' Which implies that we may achieve or surpass that figure, but what's the use if wealth remains within few hands? And that exactly is what's happening today. As we are aligned more and more towards crony capitalistic system, the divide between haves and have nots gets wider and wider.

    Sujith Nayak,

What was the economy before 65 years and what did Modi get in 2014 ? Which is better ?

Is it better taking on from here or from where Congress limped and pushed forward in the best way under able economist head of the govt., despite the world faced two recessions during the course ?

Were people using vehicles in India better off then, or are now ?

Don't worry - Baba Ramdev will start that too on very cheap rates.

US investors will have nothing left to produce and even if they manage to produce something, Peti-coat Baba will not allow them to sustain.
