President greets Sweden on its National Day

New Delhi, June 5 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee has extended greetings and felicitations to the king and people of Sweden on the occasion of the Nordic country's National Day, which is observed on June 6.

In a message to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Mukherjee fondly recalled "the gracious reception and unstinted hospitality" extended to him by the royals during his visit to Sweden last year.

"It is with great pleasure that I extend warm greeting and felicitations to your majesty and the people of Sweden on the occasion of your National Day," Mukherjee said in his message.

"I cherish warm memories of the gracious reception and unstinted hospitality extended to me by your majesty and her majesty Queen Silvia during my state visit to Sweden in 2015," he added.

The President noted that the visit strengthened the relations between the two countries, "underpinned by our common and unwavering commitment to democratic values".

Appreciating the visit of a delegation led by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven to India for the "Make in India Week" earlier this year, President Mukherjee hoped that India-Sweden cooperation "will continue to grow in depth and scope in a manner which would benefit both our peoples".
