Doha, Jun 5: (Doha News): Qatar’s former first lady and the head of the Roman Catholic Church met over the weekend at the Vatican.

In a private audience, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and Pope Francis discussed the refugee crisis, the importance of education in conflict zones and the need to expand inter-faith dialogue between Muslims and Christians, QNA reports.

The Qatar Foundation chairperson and the Pope also signed an agreement for the Qatar National Library to digitize and make publicly available centuries-old Arab and Islamic manuscripts held by the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana.

The memorandum of understanding was also signed by former culture minister Dr. Hamad bin Abdelaziz Al Kuwari, who is running for the post of Unesco Secretary General, as well as Mons Cesare Pasini, director of the Vatican library.

According to Vatican Radio, Sheikha Moza gifted the Pope an Arabic manuscript of the Gospels produced in Ottoman Turkey in the 18th century.

And Pope Francis presented her with a medallion depicting an olive tree for peace and the Arabic edition of his latest manifesto, 'Laudato si’.
