Beware : 'WhatsApp Gold invite' is a scam

New Delhi, May 27 (IExpress) : Is there a special version of WhatsApp that celebrities are using? A WhatsApp Gold version where you might befriend a movie star? An invite-only club with special features? If you’ve got such a message this month, it is best to ignore, because there’s no such thing as WhatsApp Gold.

WhatsApp scams are pretty common, and the latest one is called WhatsApp Gold. This one promises entry into an exclusive club with special features, like the ability to send more than 100 photos in one go, delete messages sent by mistake and more.

According to the Telegraph.co.uk users have been receiving this messaging asking them to upgrade to WhatsApp Gold. While there’s no such app in the Android Play or iOS App Store, the website mentioned in one of the purported messages “www.goldenversion.com” also give a 404 error.

Here’s what a sample message reads like, “Hey Finally Secret Whatsapp golden version has been leaked, This version is used only by big celebrities. Now we can use it too, WhatsApp Gold Contains many advanced features like WhatsApp Video calling, Delete the messages you sent by mistake , Send more than 100 pics at once, Free calling, Change WhatsApp themes and tons of great features. This WhatsApp gold can be activated only Via Invites and I am inviting you. Once you activate this WhatsApp gold , your green icon will change to gold and you can enjoy all features 100% safely.

Also there was the WhatsApp Plus app, which as the Telegraph report points, was not authorised by the company and claimed that it will “let users send pictures, videos and music files of an umlimited size.”

WhatsApp Gold appears to be another take of this; users should not click on the link as it could be a malware. Also remember to warn all your aunts and uncles that they should not forward the message is it a scam.
