Obama says no apology for A-bomb on Hiroshima visit

Tokyo, May 23 AFP): US President Barack Obama will not apologise for the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on his landmark visit this week, he told Japanese public broadcaster in an interview.

Asked if an apology would be included in remarks he plans to make there, he told the broadcaster NHK: "No, because I think that it's important to recognise that in the midst of war, leaders make all kinds of decisions.

"It's a job of historians to ask questions and examine them, but I know as somebody who has now sat in this position for the last seven and a half years, that every leader makes very difficult decisions, particularly during war time."

Obama will become the first sitting US president to visit Hiroshima, where the first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, killing about 140,000 people in total.

Tens of thousands were killed by the fireball that the powerful Hiroshima blast generated, with many more succumbing to injuries or illnesses caused by radiation in the weeks, months and years afterward.

The southern city of Nagasaki was hit by a second bomb three days later, killing 74,000 people, in one of the final acts of World War II.

    "An excuse is worse and more terrible than a lie, for an excuse is a lie guarded."
    Admitting a mistake and apologizing is a great virtue, I think, which is not acquired but attained on birth.

    The quote i mentioned above is that of a great man who apologized to the republic of China,for the atrocities of church during the colonial times. Obama wouldn't have lost anything by apologizing but would have held the American esteem higher.

    Sudhakar,

    How long back have you enlightened yourself with some information ? Or are you constantly dwelling in the well hypnotized by RSS ? Here is a census taken in 2001 and {2011} :

    Hindu 827 million (80.5%) {96.63 crore (79.8 percent)}
    Muslims 138 million (13.4%) {17.22 crore (14.2 percent)}
    Christians 24 million (2.3%) {2.78 crore (2.3 percent)}
    Sikh 19 million (1.9%) {2.78 crore (2.3 percent)}
    Buddhists 8 million (0.80%) {Buddhist 0.84 crore (0.7 percent)}
    Jains 4 million (0.4%) {0.45 crore (0.4 percent)}

    Equip yourself with a comparable table and check the growth of religions in ten years. If the migration from one religion to the other on the basis of enticement as you accuse had taken place, imagine what the difference could have been !

    Bring some enlightening argument man - not same old PUNGI !

    Hiroshima n Nagasaki is just a trial to mankind shown the power of Atom Bomb. Most of the countries now owned more dangerous stuff than mere earlier atom bombs. Our earth is sitting up above these arsenals. We do not know when and which time is going to explode will wipe out some areas which now foreseen in map.
    Decision taken to bomb these twin cities is taken by britishers as they lost battle in every front with the help of America. Germany and Japanese moving very fast to conquer whole of world. Britishers signed with america to avail these bombs in exchange to leave some of colonies which held by britishers. Due to pressure on that time and not able to concentrate left about 80% colonies. It's not due to Gandhiji we achieved independence by non-violence. Because inside India pressure developed by other people and as such britishers left our nation. How long you occupy other's home. Actually americans intention to bomb in Tokyo or Kyoto..but due to short of time dropped in these twin cities. See the aftermath of the same..still people suffering.

    Check in wikipedia for "List of wars involving the United States"
    They are involved in one or other war since 1775. They need wars and they survive by selling weapons. If there are no wars, America will be doomed.
