India reacts sharply to US report on religious freedom

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI): Reacting strongly to a US report which said religious freedom in India was on a "negative trajectory" in 2015, India today said it "fails to show proper understanding of India, its constitution and its society".

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Government does not see the locus standi of a foreign entity like USCIRF to pronounce on the state of Indian citizens' constitutionally protected rights.

"Our attention has been drawn to the recent report by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which once again fails to show proper understanding of India, its constitution and its society.

"India is a vibrant pluralistic society founded on strong democratic principles. The Indian Constitution guarantees fundamental rights to all its citizens including the right to freedom of religion.

"Government does not see the locus standi of a foreign entity like USCIRF to pronounce on the state of Indian citizens' constitutionally protected rights. We take no cognizance of their report," Swarup said.

He was reacting to the US report which said, "In 2015, religious tolerance deteriorated and religious freedom violations increased in India."

In its annual report, USCIRF asked the Indian government to publicly rebuke officials and religious leaders who make derogatory statements about religious communities.

Members of USCIRF were denied visas by Indian government early this year on the argument that religious freedom is enshrined in the constitution and any foreign third party has no locus standi to comment or investigate on it.

"Minority communities, especially Christians, Muslims, and Sikhs, experienced numerous incidents of intimidation, harassment, and violence, largely at the hands of Hindu nationalist groups," the report alleged.

USCIRF alleged that members of the ruling BJP tacitly supported these groups and used religiously-divisive language to further inflame tensions.

US uses these NGOs for influencing Indian electorate. they want a weak India which bends to US interests. most people now know who is behind koodankulam protests. it is not just India, in pakisthan secret US funded NGOs were used to track Osama Bin laden. they came in the guise of providing polio vaccine. even today it is not clear as to who were behind church attacks in Mangalore. Even if there are communal incidents during congress rule, these NGOs will play ostrich like for sure. If the people in US are very secular, why a man like Donald Trump who openly speaks against religious minorities especially muslims should get huge support from the citizens of USA.

Mr. Modi will be making the next state of the Union message that he will not visit the U.S., and some other Western nations. Years back, when the Indian passport was issued, the citizens had no right to visit Israel and South Africa.

Likewise, through his utive order, the Indian passport holders
are prohibited to visit the U.S. for tourism-education-visiting relatives and business.

In 2015, the business investment of the people of Indian origin have double in U.K. Indians are investing more in U.K., U.S.A., France etc. Mr. Modi will stop that too.

Beef handling is punishable with 10 and 5 years prison term in Haryana and Maharastra respectively along with monetary penalty which was delightfully signed by the President of India.

Mr. Modi could have very easily proposed a law clearly stating that the minority religious persecution punishable with certain prison term and killing as capital crime and the President would have signed. But, the world roaming Modji can't make that decision as yet.

Yet another damning report and a mirror to what is happening in the country.

India and Indians always enjoyed religious freedom. This is something that pains RSS very badly. They sight the examples of Middle eastern countries and say look what is happening there. Which implies they know what is happening there in middle eastern countries wrong and they want India to adopt that. What a logic of so called self proclaimed patriots of RSS.

That is exactly the reason why BJP and RSS are not the right people to guide India to any glory. They can only act as speed breakers and spoilers. Their past contribution to India is sufficient evidence to judge by history.

Emergency was d and innocents were jained.. but today the country is in far better shape. But then the frustrated souls exist every where.. even in this country also we have millions of frustrated souls who since 2014 may are on constipation. The us reporter is a voice for such frustratd souls.. if they cannot stop shootout at their own school what are they preaching us? India pours so much money for the development of minoritiess like no other country in the world spends… there reproters have some agenda and they are fulfilling it…India gave tight slap with that response.. good..

India was a vibrant-pluralistic society, but now has been turned as a street goon's wild march all across the nation being silently watched by the BJP Government, and Mr. Modi is keeping totally quite which is causing great alarm and surprise to the whole world.

In the U.S. media, FOX news-Catholic Church T.V., CBN etc are now exposing the highly increased minority Christian attacks by the BJP. Nationally known news papers like the New York Times-Los Angles Times-Christian Science Monitor etc are writing articles about the increased religious persecution in India.

While reading from the news papers of the GCC countries, they are now exposing the increased religious persecution of the minorities.

There is no news as yet whether Mr. Modi has ever reponsed to the letter sent by 24 Congressmen and 8 Senators their concern of highly increased religious persecution in India.

I used to get hardly even one report of religious persecution in India/month to my e-mail box from different sources, but now at least three times/week I am getting about the religious persecution of the Christians in India.

Also, religious and non-religious news medias of Europe, Australia etc are now exposing the religious persecution in India.

The Sikh community is very strong in the Canadian politics and they can play some strong adverse game plan to have far less business relationship in between Canada and India. Likesise the GCC countries would be very cautious.

Sir, you are simply talking out of context. Why in the world, more attacks upon the minorities of India now? The Muslims, Sikhs-Christians etc. Dear Friend, you are living in Karnataka. When
Sriman Yeddyurappa took the steering of Karnataka, do you remember in the month of September 2008, how many attacks upon the Churches in Mangalore alone putting the lame excuse " forced conversion"? Do you think that the forced conversion was drastically stopped by the current Congress Government so hardly any attack upon the Christian Churches.

The jobless street goons enjoy the fun of torturing defenseless people now that act is spreading against the minorities all across India.

Mr. Modi has not yet uttered a word about the attacks upon the minorities of India as the CEO of the largest democracy in the world.
I am sure that he is afraid to offend his party and the sister parties to make such an open and frank statement.
