After China's protest, India cancels visa for dissident Uyghur leader

NEW DELHI, Apr 25 (Agencies) : After China's strong protest, India has cancelled its visa to dissident Uyghur leader Dolkun Isa, citing Interpol's red corner notice against him.

Isa, a leader of the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) who lives in Germany, had been invited to a conference being organised by the US-based 'Initiatives for China'. Uyghurs and many other Chinese dissidents in exile were expected to attend the conference in India and discuss democratic transformation in China.

India's decision to permit WUC leaders whom China regards as backers of terrorism in its volatile Muslim-dominated Xinjiang province was reported to be in response to Beijing blocking India's bid to get Jaish-e-Muhammad chief Masood Azhar banned by the UN.

China's unhappiness about reports that Dolkun had been given the visa was reflected in Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying saying, "What I want to point out is that Dolkun is a terrorist in red notice of the Interpol and Chinese police. Bringing him to justice is due obligation of relevant countries."

When asked about the issue, external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup had said,"We have seen the media reports and external affairs ministry is trying to ascertain the facts."

Xinjiang, which has over 10 million Uyghurs of Turkik origin Muslims, has been on the boil for several years. Uyghurs have been protesting the large-scale settlements in Xinjiang by Han Chinese.

Tilak, Mumbai. you said "uigyer leader named "isa" is listed in interpol redcorner list.this means every nation should handover any guy mentioned in interpol red corner list to particular country which demanded his/her custody." You should sharpen your brain mate. Do you know where this guy and all the so called terrorists branded y China are living including Dalai Lama?? Isa is living in Germany and why they don't hand over him to China as per your logic. Dawood and Massor have red corner notice and why Pakistan is not handing over them to India? There are so many Chinese dissidents (who are terrorists for Chinese) and Iranian, Syrian dissidents living in the western countries and do they hand over. Isa is not a terrorists in strict term but a separatist. China supported Pakistan against India and now India succumbs to Chinese pressure. There is nothing to be proud of. Running a nation is different than running a state which Feku is slowly understanding. It is easy to sit in Pune or Mumbai to preach and blame 65 years.

Why can't you ask Feku to investigate all those irregularity to find out how much Defense money went to Italian family and PUBLISH it?? BTW, do not forget him to furnish the details of that money made by Coffins during NDA. "Very recently our Defence Ministry approved bullet proof jacket for our soldiers..AFTER 60 Years !"" I thought NDA also ruled in those 60 years but they were busy in making money out of coffin. "It may take several years to build our Military to become No.1" BTW, what makes you to think we will become number one when we are importing majority of our defense equipment??

Making enmity and building discord with China may cost India dearly (not direct impact) but especially considering their support/good relation with Pakistan.
Sometimes such strategy is good when India is embarked on economic growth under Mr. Modi. Well balanced decision.

as per the news in indian media, there is a conference to be held in dhamasala on the topic "human rights and democracy in china"
where many tibet and uigher leaders were also about to participate this month.this event was scheduled even before the chinas vote against azar in unsc.the main issue here is this particular uigyer leader named "isa" is listed in interpol redcorner list.this means every nation should handover any guy mentioned in interpol red corner list to particular country which demanded his/her custody.india got custody of abu salem from portugal even against portugal govts wish as his name was there in interpol list.as isa name was inculded by un in interpol all un members has to abide by the law.
this is a matter of indias reputaion in international world if we did not obey united nations law as india is a strong
contender of unsc seat with veto power,NSG etc but india have not denied visa to other uigyer leader to vist india who are not
on interpol list but still are hated in china.that itself is a huge victory.(contd)

(contd)as far as isa visa is concerned, indian govt has clarified that it did not knew initially that isa's name was in interpol list.
if isa is a freedom fighter then it is usa and europes fault to accept chinas demand to include him as a terrorist in interpol list and
india as a responsible nation has to abide by un orders.as far as tit for tat against china is concerned, india have banned today milk products and mobile phones and other electronic goods from china which do not follow indian regulations.hurting china economically will really effect china than other moves which may look like bravado but may hurt india in the long run.still we should not forget that india govt has issued visa to other uigyer leaders who are not in interpol list to attend the conference in india on democracy in china.this is also a great stand by india to stand up against china.is awould have been issued visa if he was not on the interpol redcorner list as terroist.
india should continue as they have done today like imposing economic ban on chinese goods like anti dumping duty etc as this will hurt chinese the most.

last but not the least, china may have held discussions with india backhand and may have agreed to some conditions proposed by india like removing technical hold on azars ban etc.surely there must be some backhand negotiations that took place between 2 nations.informal diplomatic discussions between any nations are not covered in media but one thing for sure.china have now learned that india will not hesitate to strike back next time if china continues the same thing in unsc.that itself is a advantage for india as this is is the first time india have acted so strongly lime this.kudos to modi and doval for this move as two largest economically emerging and matured countries it is not in best interests for india to continue this issue forward.india needed to make sure that a strong message was needed to sent to china and that move has been fulfilled and this is indias moral victory.

Instead of taking U-turn upon Chinese pressure, India should have denied visa to Dolkun Isa upon ascertaining that he is under Interpol scanner. This would have shown the world that we are really against terrorism. I hope now the Govt. will not cancel the impending conference in the country, to be attended by Chinese dissidents, should there be further pressure from China. The Chinese need to be reminded time and again about their veto in favour of Pak terrorist Masood Azhar when the entire world supported India’s stand.

'56 inch chest' keeps on shrinking from time to time.

If you don't have the courage to carry on with your policy, then please don't show your cowardice and incompetence by issuing visas.

Foreign Policy of BJP is messed up.
