Modi expected to visit US in June, fourth visit after becoming PM

Washington, Apr 20 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the US on June 7 and 8, a bipartisan group of four top American lawmakers said today and asked the Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan to invite him for a joint meeting of the Congress.

There has been no official announcement from either the White House or the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi.

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Washington on June 7 and 8 of this year," Congressmen Ed Royce, Eliot Engel, George Holding and Ami Bera said in a letter to Ryan.

Royce is Chairman of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee and Engel is its Ranking Member. Holding and Bera are Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.

"Given the depth of our relationship with India across a range of areas -- defence, humanitarian and disaster relief, space cooperation, conservation, and innovation, -- we believe this is an ideal opportunity for the Congress to hear directly from the Prime Minister," they said.

"Therefore, we ask that you invite Prime Minister Modi to address a Joint Meeting of Congress. It is our understanding that if invited, the Prime Minister would accept," the four lawmaker said in their letter dated April 19, a copy of which was released to the press.
The bipartisan group of Congressmen said the US partnership with India is based on a foundation of shared values, including the rule of law, electoral democracy, and religious pluralism.

"This renewed partnership has found champions in the leadership of both parties, including both President Clinton and President George W Bush, and has been further emboldened in the United States by a strong, proud, and growing Indian-American diaspora," the letter said.

Observing that US-India relationship has seen significant growth, the Congressmen said the US President Barack Obama has visited India twice, and Modi reciprocated with two trips of his own to the United States.

"Our two countries have signed a defense framework agreement to increase military cooperation and the civilian nuclear agreement, signed in 2008, will result in the construction of nuclear power plants in India," the letter said.

"Additionally, the United States and India are forging closer ties to address humanitarian crises, such as the aftermath of the earthquake in Nepal, in the renewable energies sector, and in space exploration. It is no wonder that the partnership has been characterised as the defining partnership of the 21st century," it said.

"The US-India relationship consistently garners strong bipartisan support. Inviting Prime Minister Modi to address a Joint Meeting will allow Congress to express support for this special global partnership," the four top American lawmakers said.

Even though the U.S. has greater interest to be close to India to check the Chines high power play in Asia, Mr. Modi would be faced with some questions at this visit.

Twenty two congressmen and 8 Senators wrote a letter of concern to Mr. Modi about the deteriorating religious tolerance in India so far there is any news that he has responded to that.

Three delegates from the U.S. Religious Freedom Foundation when applied for the India visa to talk with the minority religious people of India about the increased religious persecution, it was refused by the Government of India.
After this event, the Congressmen and the Senators wrote him a personal letter.

The U.S. Congress is watching the shaking situation of " electoral democracy-rule of law and religious freedom in India now" thus Mr. Modi would be faced with some hard questions now.

The Patel community is now taking a very cool attitude towards Mr. Modi due to the Patel reservation issue in Gujarat.

    2) What legal authority is possessed by so called "US Religious Freedom Foundation"to scrutinize and certify Indian minority society. Are they empowered by United Nations? Not at all . They are nothing more than a bunch of Christian missionaries.Thats it.

It has won only five out of the 102 seats in the crucial nagar panchayat elections on Sunday. The Congress, which won 21 seats, has emerged more powerful, while the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and Shiv Sena won 20 seats each. Independents and other small parties secured 36 seats.

Now second point, yes it's true that ,all these trips, cost the taxpayer, having said that , please go though Modis foreign trips itinerary, it's jam packed, scheduled with back to back meetings.just last week it has been widely reported that he sleeps on flights to avoid wastage of money and time.

It’s 15 hours and a half long tiresome flight from Delhi to JKF and I can’t imagine any passenger including your workaholic (as per you) Modi keeping awake even if he wants to . As for the rare honor, anyone who’s aware of the recent geopolitical developments knows the reason behind this rare honor! As for your challenge, what exactly you mean by ‘Try to follow half of daily schedule on a foreign country”?. All those who accompany him, do follow him. Given a Visa, air ticket, free food (Modi is entitled to the luxury of taking his own cook too) anyone can follow him. He has a team of secretaries/speech writers etc to take care of everything in detail. All he has to do is to yap away the same old cliched lines and at the end of the day do something beneficial to the host as a token of gratitude. As for people back home, kuch empty promises pe kaam chalega.

Dear Modiji, Hon. PM of India, please ensure your people have enough water to drink and use during these hot days & drought hit places. Use that huge amount of money that you will spend on your tour for some good deeds to fellow Indians. With an era of Emails video Conferences etc, what is the point in traveling so often using hard earned Tax Payers money.!! Come on think practical & be sensitive towards " Need of the Hour " & not need of the " Jolly Good Hour " of your interests...!
is is a Sweet Revenge that you are taking on US & world leaders that your US Visa was then denied, but now you go on a Red Carpet..! What a Revengeful, Glorious Feeling must be..!!

Many Indian states are going through severe drought this year. There is not even drinking water and one time food for people in drought hit area's like Maha, Karnataka, Gujrat, Telangana.

Instead of reducing government expenditure on these useless foreign tours our royal PM is embarking on one more US visit.

He thinks that he is still on honeymoon period.

Its a high time that SC intervenes and ask clarification from Modi about necessity of frequent foreign tours and wastage of tax payers money.

Not decided to go? You must be joking. Gujjus would give their right arms to get a US Visa. And in this case it's state sponsored free trip.

So we are expecting another Modi-NRI road and rock show...In India media reaction will be like "The best PM ever" Social Media reaction "WE are blessed to have Modiji has our PM".
As usual Modi will blame the Congress in US...Make some promises to Facebook Chairman...then there will be a meeting scheduled with some CEO's wherein Huge announcements will be made regarding Investing in India...and then these so called investors want the land for peanuts...which is not possible with the current Land act...Modi is obsessed with foreign tours...

Rafael deal was done because congress had agreed with france to buy 125 rafale fighters at a cost god only knows this is know as MMRCA deal

Modi and parikar had to cancelled the deal with france because India didn't had money to buy 125 fighter jets, 36 rafale was ordered in govt to govt deal.. The money saved from this was pumped into LCA tejas developed by HAL (Make In India)

Na.. Na.. Sri.. Another chance to shed crocodile tears in front of international audience and brag about him being PM despite being a son of a lady who was doing cleaning work at others' houses.

All our parents too slogged tooth-and-nail to raise us. My heart sinks recalling their hardships. I wonder what is it that makes the man beam with pride reminding the old woman about her bygone hardships.
