Mangalore, Oct 13:  The concept of virtual class room included in the academics of Sahyadri Institute of Technology (SIT) will help the students to a great extent, said Prabhakar Bhandary, trustee, SIT on Friday October 12.

He was speaking at the launch of virtual classroom at the college held in the new building of SIT near NH 48 at Adyar.

The main intention of the virtual class room is to update students of the institution and enable them to face the cut-throat competition and make them competent to face the challenges they  face when they become professionals, he added.

The interactive class room is just an example of how the institution pays attention to the overall development of its students. The college was recently started, but the management felt no hesitation to proceed to the big investment in order to enhance the capability of students, he added.

Demonstrating the use of the interactive products including boards, pads and PRS, John Elliot, international sales manager, Interwrite Learning Inc, said the system is supported by computer and internet, hence teachers and student can make the best use of time and information available on web, besides what has been provided to them to teach.

The virtual class room considerably lessens the distance between teachers and students as it creates atmosphere where interaction plays the major role, thus it gives a new dimension to teaching, he remarked.

This also allows teachers to asses the students with a close watch on the students' involvement. Thus it also ensures students that no student misses out the lessons, for being absent in any of the classes as he or she can access to the lessons and lectures of the previous day both on paper or in compact discs, he outlined the advantages.

Satish Shetty, vice-president, Globus Infocom Limited, Manjunath Bhandary, president Bhandary Foundation were present.

Dr DL Prabhakar, principal, SIT, welcomed the gathering and Dr Anthony AJ, vice-principal, SIT, proposed vote of thanks.
