Mangalore, Oct 10: "Sports is essential for the well-being of students. It also contributes for the development of personality, said A Sadanand Shetty, president, Sports Promoters' Club, here during the inaugural of sports day, organized by DK district Grade D government employees' association, for their children held at Mangala stadium on Wednesday October 10.

Dr D Chinnappa Gowda, president, Karnataka State Government Employees' Association, wished grand success to the sports event.

The events of the day were broadly classified into three categories, one for children of the employees who are below the age of 10 years, another one for the employees who are below 40 years age and the third one for those who are above forty, Cyril Robert D'Souza, treasurer, district Grade D government employees Association, informed Daijiworld correspondent.

While emphasizing on the significance of organizing sports day, he said that the sports day has been organized to mark the golden jubilee of Grade D employees' association which was established in 1957. 

Speaking on the response by the employees' participation , the treasurer shared his happiness saying "we could hardly expect more than 200 participants in the morning, but by 10 am the number of participants crossed 400, thus the sports day got very good response from the participants."

Parameshwara Poojary, vice-president, Karnataka State Government Employees' Association, M C Ramesh, assistant director, department of youth affairs and sports and Vishwanat Shetty B, president, Karnataka state government automobile drivers' association, were present during the inaugural function.
