Mangalore, Oct 10: DK Zilla Panchayat CEO A M Kunjappa informed at a press meet here on Tuesday, October 9, that the Mysore Divisional Dasara sports meet would be held in the city for the first time. The meet will be inaugurated by ZP president K P Sucharitha Shetty and former MLA N Yogish Bhat would preside.

The Mysore divisional Dasara sports meet for the year 2007-08 will be held under the joint aegis of DK district administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Affairs and Sports department and Karnataka Sports Authority at Mangala stadium here on October 11 and 12, he added..

Delegates from eight districts under the Mysore division including Mysore, namely Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Kodagu, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar would participate, informed Kunjappa and he also said that special arrangements were made for lodging of participants.

In addition to athletics, there will be volleyball, kabaddi, gymnastic, hockey, khokho, badminton, basket ball, hand ball, table tennis, lawn tennis, foot ball, ball badminton and throw ball matches in the tourney. Around 2,500 members including athletes, coach, managers and officials will take part in the tournament, he stated.

Hockey and football matches will be conducted at NITK Surathkal. Ball badminton will be held at Pompei High School. Tennis will be held at Canara Tennis Association court, while all other matches will be held at Mangala stadium. However the CEO informed that competitions in gymnastics had already been conducted at Mysore, as there was lack of required facilities.

The total expenditure of the tourney is estimated to be Rs.3 lac. The State government has released Rs.75,000, while Mangalore City Corporation will be giving Rs.50,000, and the ZP Rs.15,000. The remaining sum will be collected from other sponsors and donors, added Kunjappa.

DK District Physical Teachers’ Association, District Athletics, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Basket ball, Swimmers, Hand ball, Throw ball and Foot ball associations will join with the organizers, Kunjappa declared.

Ramesh, assistant director of the department of Youth Affairs and Sports was present at the press meet.
