- BJP formally withdraws support to JD-S govt
Bangalore, Oct 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday formally withdrew support to Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who said he will request the Governor to let him prove his majority in the Assembly.
A BJP delegation led by B S Yediyurappa, who was Deputy Chief Minister, met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and submitted a letter withdrawing support to the 20-month-old ministry.

The meeting with the governor was preceded by a huge rally of BJP workers and supporters in the city.
Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal-Secular announced after a meeting with his party leaders that he would meet the Governor soon and seek his permission to prove his majority.
Kumaraswamy, who has the support of 51 JD(S) legislators in the 225-member Assembly, claimed that he would not seek the support of Congress, which has 65 members.
The BJP, which has 79 members, withdrew support to Kumaraswamy after he backed out of a February 2006 agreement to hand over Chief Minister's post to the party at the end of a 20-month-term.
Congress general secretary Prithviraj Chavan is expected in Bangalore late Sunday for talks with State leaders on the strategy to be followed.

Bangalore: In the first sign of revolt within JDS over power transfer issue, party MLA, Mahima J Patel, today resigned from Parliamentary Secretary post protesting against the party reneging on its promise of power transfer to the BJP.
Mahima, who had been appointed Karnataka's representative in New Delhi, sent in his resignation to the chief minister.
The son of former Chief Minister late J H Patel, belongs to the dominant Lingayat community to which B S Yediyurappa, whom the JDS denied Chief Ministership by not transfering power as agreed earlier, also hails.
"Many JDS MLAs are unhappy with the decision of not transfering power. But they are not directly telling the Chief Minister," Mahima told reporters.
Mahima is the first MLA to openly protest the party's decision. Party sources said several MLAs also favoured honouring the power-sharing pact, at the legislature party meeting here last week.
"People have started looking at politics with aversion. We have nothing against the party or party leadership. We need a new direction," Mahima said.
