Udupi Oct 3: “Induu Iruva Gandhi” a book edited by Jayaprakash Mavanikuli was released at a function organized by the Gandhi Study Centre of M GM College, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, here on Tuesday October 2 by writer V R Hebbar.

Speaking on the occasion Prof Hebbar declared that the ideals of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi would be relevant for all times to come. Further he stated that it was in South Africa that Gandhiji got a first-hand experience of discrimination. He launched his Satyagraha and fought for equality in South Africa. It was during a meeting with the freedom fighter Gopalkrishna Gokhale that the latter told him that Gandhiji’s presence was more essential in India, Hebbar informed.

Further he informed that Gandhiji had come up with non-violent methods to gain freedom for the country. Quoting scientist Albert Einstein, he said that the future generation would not believe that a person called Gandhi had lived.

Hebbar rued the fact that although Gandhiji’s life was a message to the countrymen, but it is a tragedy that the younger generation knew so little about him. Dealing with the topic at hand he said books such as “Indu Iruva Gandhi” were more relevant now, as it gives a deep insight into the life, time, achievement and the ideals advocated by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji had adopted the qualities of an ideal man as stated in the bhajan “Vaishnav janato” written by Narsinh Mehta, prof. Hebbar added.

The gathering was welcomed and introductory remarks were made by the principal of MGM College Mavinakuli. Gandhian S.R. Shenoy was felicitated on the occasion. Registrar of the academy of general education K K Pai presided over the function. The programme was compered by Surendranath Shetty. V Arvind Hebbar and party rendered Ram Dhun in the course of the programme.
