Mangalore, Oct 3: Police sources have revealed that a group of three men was engaged in a futile attempt of kidnapping and robbing a foreign female student on Jail Road near Kodialbail here on Monday October 1 night.  The police have arrested one in this regard. 

Sources said that three foreign students including a girl were walking along the Jail Road on Monday night, three persons who came on a car tried to snatch the purse from girl's hands and tried to kidnap her.  Since the students were strong enough to resist, the miscreants were not successful in their attempt.

Meanwhile the girl too shouted for help, hearing which neighbours came for their rescue.  Seeing this, though the miscreants tried to escape, the locals with the help of the students managed to catch one Rathish.  The police who rushed to the spot almost immediately took Rathish to custody for investigation.

However, reports said that the students have not yet filed an official complaint with the police in this regard.  So the motive of the miscreants is not yet known as whether they were intending to rob the students or wanted to kidnap the young woman.
