Mangalore, Oct 3: Senior party leaders and former minister K Amarnath Shetty were against my promotion to the post, complained JD (S) ZP member Abdul Aziz Malar, who had unsuccessfully contested against party colleague K P Sucharitha Shetty for the post of ZP president, here recently. He was representing the Konaje constituency.

According to Aziz despite being a senior party functionary, no other member or leader had supported his candidature except K P Balaraj Rai, the district unit president.

Malar also clarified that all along he was touted as the presidential candidate of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party – Janata Dal (S) combine in ZP. However at the last moment Shetty emerged as official candidate.

Malar informed that he wanted to explain the situation that made him to contest, to the party supremo H D Deve Gowda. Aziz lost to the election held on Sept 22 by one vote against his nearest rival Shetty.
