Mangalore, Oct 1: The two-day state-level Human Resources Confluence organised by School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya here drew to a close on Saturday September 29 evening.

The programme began with an audio-visual display of the making of the confluence.

Speaking on the occasion, J R Lobo, deputy project director, KUIDFC, said that HR professionals are the backbone of any company. He quoted the words of Jawaharlal Nehru and said that Nehru had called for the ending of poverty, disease and advocated equal opportunity for all. India has seen signifciant development since independence in all sectors like health and provision of basic social infrastructure, Lobo said.

He further added that while the world is getting older, India will be young. For 60 years India was classified as a developing nation but though poverty level is falling and our achievements are being recognised at the global level, we still lack the confidence to see ourselves as a developed, self-reliant nation. We fail to recognise any good work done and blame the systems for all the ills, he added.

'We need an efficient machinery to steer democracy. We should have a vision of development for our country and the valueable human resources should be built with a positive attitude,' he added.

The other chief guest on the occasion was Raju Armugham, HR manager, Ford India Ltd, Chennai, who also addressed the gathering.

The programme was presided over by college principal Dr Jacinta D'Souza.

Winners of various events conducted during the two-day confluence were awarded prizes. Shobha D'Souza of Roshni Nilaya bagged the title of Best Manager. Abdul Fatak and Naveed of PA College of Business Administration won the first place in quiz while Kiran Vas and Minu Kulkarni of Aloysius Institute of Business Administration won the second place.

The award for the best paper presentation was presented to Reshma K of SDM College, Ujire and Jinto Thomas of Roshni Nilaya.

Among those present were Roshni Nilaya faculty members Ronald Sequeira and Ashok D'Souza.
