Mangalore, Oct 1: Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have crossed business level of Rs 15,319 crore in the first quarter of the financial year 2007-08, Lead District Manager Udayakumar Holla has informed.

He was detailing the progress reports of the banks’ performance in the district at a District Consultative Meeting for Banking Development organised by the Syndicate Bank, the Lead Bank of the district, at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Saturday September 29.

Holla said; ‘‘the achievement was made by 370 bank branches in the district.’’ The banks had collected a total of Rs 9,516 crore as deposits and distributed advances to the tune of Rs 5,803 crore, he added.

Banks had shown increase in deposits by 24.5 per cent and in advances by 19.2 per cent, he informed adding that the credit deposit ratio of the district was 61 per cent as on June 2007.

The meeting reviewed the performance of the banks under banking statistics, implementation of District Credit Plan (DCP) 2007-08 for the quarter ended on June 2007 and other government-sponsored schemes.

Under DCP, banks in the district recorded 52 per cent achievement in credit disbursement by advancing Rs 315.19 crore to farming sector. Whereas, the percent age of achievement in credit disbursement for non-farm/SSI sector was only 8 per cent with Rs 24.17 crore. A sum of Rs 123.70 crore was disbursed to other priority sector.

Banks have sanctioned loans to 102 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana. Under Chaithanya Scheme, 113 beneficiaries and 161 cases under Swavalambana scheme were sanctioned loans as on June 2007.

Zilla Panchayat CEO A M Kunjappa, Reserve Bank of India Assistant General Manager P D Ravikumar, Syndicate Bank deputy general manager K U Shanbag, NABARD deputy district manager K P Udupa and Zilla Panchayat deputy secretary P Shivashankar were present.
