Bangalore, Oct 1:  A graduation party of sorts turned deadly for a 22-year-old student from Delhi on Saturday. He was stabbed to death in a midnight brawl in Jnanabharati.

The victim, Alyusha Kumar, was returning from a bar along with five friends when six men picked up a quarrel with them at Appoorvanagar, Jnanabharati. In the melee, Alyusha was stabbed five times, while his friend, Siddharth, was stabbed on his thigh.

Son of a retired Naval officer, Alyusha enrolled into the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) five years ago. On Saturday, Alyusha and Siddharth appeared for the final year exams and hosted a party at a bar in Jnanabharathi area. At 7.45 pm, Alyusha went to the airport to pick up Samrat, a friend from Hyderabad.

The duo then joined Satyakam, Siddharth, Poorva and Deepanshi at the bar. They left the bar at 12.30 am and headed for a nearby lake. According Siddharth’s statement, the car ran out of fuel near Apoorvanagar and one of them flagged down an autorickshaw to go to a petrol bunk. Just then, another car reached the spot and four men alighted and picked up a quarrel with Alyusha and Siddarth.

As the verbal altercation heated up, two more men came to the spot on a two-wheeler and one of them stabbed Alyusha repeatedly. Alyusha collapsed and the attackers fled after stabbing Siddharth. They abandoned the two-wheeler.

Samrat and Satyakam shifted Alyusha and Siddharth to Wockhardt Hospital in Nagarbhavi and Alyusha was declared dead on arrival. Siddharth was treated for a minor stab.

What’s the motive?

The friends have told the police that Alyusha had a fight with autorickshaw drivers in the recent past. "The incident occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am. Last week, Alyusha had a fight with an auto driver in Jnanabharati and just five days ago, he was involved in another brawl in Vijayanagar. This apart, Poorva and Deepanshi said one of the attackers had slapped them a few days ago," a police officer said.

Alyusha’s father, Kumar, works for a private company in Russia, while his mother is in Tehran.
