Mangalore, Sep 27: Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, will be organising a national-level ‘World Heart Day Walkathon Manipal-2007, Red Alert’ on the occasion of World Heart Day-2007 under the theme ‘Team up for healthy hearts’ from MGM, College , Kunjibettu to Kasturba Hospital OPD.

The run is scheduled on Sunday September 30 at 8 am, informed Officiating Medical Superintendent Dr B H Anand Rao at a press meet here on Monday September 24.

This awareness run will be flagged off by Vasanthi R Pai and athlete Ashwini Nachappa will be the chief guest at the valedictory function.

Participants from all walks of life are entertained to support and raise awareness that prevention is better than cure.

Rao said that the aim of organising this walkathon is to create a red alert among general public and especially among woman about increasing incidence of cardiac diseases and to stress on importance of maintaining a healthy heart.

Thematic dress competition and vehicle decoration competition will be held as part of the function. Attractive cash prizes will be awarded to the most creative participants. 

A free cardiac consultation and ECG test will be done for all women participants above 40 years. Public interaction programme with cardiologist will also be held. People can interact with people with all types of heart related queries.

Cardiologists Dr Padma Kumar R, Dr Ramesh, Dr Suvarna and Senior Marketing Manager Anil Paul Jacob were present at the meet.
