Mangalore, Sep 27: A team of UNICEF representatives, who are on a visit to the ‘clean’ villages in undivided Dakshina Kannada, had discussions with government authorities in the Zilla Panchayat office on Wednesday, September 26.

UNICEF representatives, numbering 18, from Djibouti, Sudan, Zambia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Indonesia are in this delegation. Earlier they paid visits to Ira and Kurnad villages in Dakshina Kannada and Belapu village in Udupi district.

The delegation expressed its happiness about the hospitality of villagers. The participation of the local people in the development process even without much support from the government and the successful methods used for sanitation were key issues pointed out by the UNICEF representatives on this occasion.

At the same time, they suggested that the authorities ensure that the open wells are closed so that pollution of water could be avoided.

DK Zilla Panchayat CEO Kunjappa, Zilla Panchayat joint secretary Shivashanker, Sheena Shetty and Krishna Moolya of Janashikshana Trust were present on this occasion.
