Udupi, Sep 25: ‘‘Deve Gowda is confused over the transfer of power to the BJP, as is evident by the conflicting remarks of the father and son,’’ said former chief minister S Bangarappa.

He was replying to presspersons prior to the inauguration of the Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavana built by the Billava Samaja Seva Sangha, at Brahmavar, near here on Sunday.

Bangarappa said: ‘‘Even I am confused. The father and the son have been making all sorts of statements. In the morning they say ‘we will transfer’ and in the afternoon, they say ‘we will not’.

They say ‘if we give power to the BJP they will spoil the nation’ in the evening and make another statement in the night. I have doubts over Kumaraswamy transferring power to the BJP,’’ the Samajwadi Party state president said.

Asked about the BJP-JD(S) government’s claim of transforming the state in the last 18 months, Bangarappa said that everyone had the right to talk. But, in fact the BJP-JD(S) coalition had ruined the state.

‘‘Either on the economic front or in tackling the problems of the oppressed classes, the coalition government has failed miserably,’’ Bangarappa added.

Bangarappa condemned the attack on a bus in the name of Lord Sri Rama, as well as the Central Government’s affidavit filed to the court on the Ramar Sethu controversy. ‘‘It is wrong to break the faith of people. Our principle is clear. We respect all castes, religions and beliefs. Rama Sethu is a belief,’’ he said.

Speaking on the urban local body elections, he said that their party did not want to contest, but yielded to pressure from various quarters.

Bangarappa predicted a snap poll to both Lok Sabha and Vidhana Sabha.
