Mangalore, Sep 24: The long wait of the Catholics in Malavoor and Kenajar village has come to an end.

Bishop Aloysius P D’Souza of Mangalore blessed  laid the foundation stone for the prayer hall at Anthony Katte recently.

The prayer hall is proposed to cater the religious needs like Sunday mass and catechism classes for the children of the above said villages.

As the, Mary Help of Christians Church at Adyapady was acquired by the government to build the second runway for the Mangalore Airport, the Roman Catholic community of the locality had lost its place of worship.

But a long way still to go as the compensation awarded by the government is not sufficient to build one Church at Adyapady. The church at Adyapady is at the southern part of the newly-built second runway whereas the proposed prayer hall is at the northern part.

Fr Mathias Pereira, parish priest of St Josephs Church, Bajpe, Fr Vernon Vas, parish priest of Mary Help of Christian Church Adyapady, Jinnappa Amin, chairman of Malavoor panchayat, Victoria D’Cunha, member of Zilla Panchayat, Lawrence Rebello and Shivappa Bangera, members of taluk panchayat were present along with Michael D’Costa, vice-president and Mabel D’Souza, secretary of the parish council.
