Moodbidri, Sep 24: The by-election the lone seat of ward number one of Puchamogaru village took place at Zilla Panchayat Higher primary School Shantiraj Colony here on Sunday September 23.

The election process went on from 7am to 5 pm with voter strength of 884.

Roshan Pereira of Surlai Taccode near here won the election with the support of Janatha Dal, two and a half years back. Presently, he is working outside India. Since he was absent for consecutive 3 meetings of the panchayat his membership was cancelled automatically.

The contestants were Jerald Mendes of Managalpete, Taccode, near here and Michael lobo of Rambail. These were the contestants for the Mangalore taluk panchayat before in which Jerald Mendes was defeated twice.

The Hosabettu Grama panchayat is of 24 seats and Flavia, wife of Jerald Mendes, is presently the president.

If congress, that is if Michael wins in this election, there will be 13 seats out of which 24 will be with congress and president will be congress easy bite. If Jerald Mendes wins then once again the Janata Dal will have 50-50 chance of presidentship. The result counts for resident MLA Abhayachandra and ex-minister Amaranath Shetty for the 28th election for Moodbidri Town Municipality, also as prestigious issue

The results will be announced On Tuesday September 25. The counting will be held at Mangalore Taluk Panchayat office, Hampankatta.
