Mangalore, Sep 23: A district-level workshop on national syllabus was organized jointly with the Public Instructions Department (PID), Valored, District Education and Training Institute (DETI), Mangalore and Federation of Education Resource Centre (FERC) at the ISD hall, at Nanthoor here on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Speaking to an august gathering, Mangalore director Renni D’Souza stated that formulating a standard national curriculum is a difficult task for any department, as regional diversity thrives in the country.

Therefore D’Souza advised that efforts must be made to improve the quality of education and hoped that the training being imparted at the workshop will become a source of inspiration to teachers.

DETI principal Philomena Lobo informed that the new policy reflects upon various issues and the NCERT believes that diversity of culture and lifestyles must be preserved.

For spreading the message far and wide so that it reaches the taluks and village was the intent behind organizing this district-level workshop, Lobo added.

According to Dr Mahidas, reader at the Teachers Training Institute, Mangalore though NCERT provides a broad framework regarding syllabus, every state gives its own suggestions and here teachers have a major role to play, he added.

Dr Mahidas delivering a lecture on the topic National Syllabus Framework- 2005 informed that while earlier the emphasis was on national integration, now it is more on creativity.

The two- day workshop was organised for BEO, CRP, BRP and BRC co-ordinators and primary school teachers. Lecturers Walter D’Mello, M Nagraj and Krishnashastri Iyer were present on the occasion.
