Puttur, Sep 21: Chanila Thimmappa Shetty of BJP has unanimously been elected as the president of Puttur taluk panchayat while immediate past president M Pakira has been elected as his deputy.  Since the vice-president's post was reserved and only Pakira met the requirement from BJP he was elected vice-president.

Election officer and assistant commissioner P Vasanth Kumar announced the results of the poll.  The present team of office-bearers will function for the next 20 months.  While BJP has strength of 13 members in the panchayat, Congress has 9 seats.

Chanila Thimmappa Shetty is not a novice to the administration.  He was the member of Kabaka gram panchayat and has also the experience of being the chairman of Balnad CA Bank.
