Lawyer caught on camera thrashing journos, students arrested

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI): Yashpal Singh, one of the three lawyers caught on camera thrashing journalists and JNU teachers and students at Patiala House court complex last week, was arrested tonight amid mounting outrage over alleged police inaction against those involved in the assault.

The arrest came a day after a news channel aired a sting operation in which the lawyer was seen boasting about beating JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, charged with sedition, when he was brought to the court on February 17.

A senior Delhi Police official said Singh has been arrested in connection with two cases of assault when he presented himself to the investigators at Tilak Marg police station responding to summons.

Singh was caught on camera beating journalists and JNU students and teachers along with his colleagues Vikram Singh Chauhan and Om Sharma among others.

While Sharma was arrested on Saturday and subsequently released on bail, Chauhan, who led two brazen attacks, is yet to respond to multiple notices issued by the police asking him to join probe.

Groups of lawyers led by Chauhan had thrashed journalists and JNU students and teachers on February 15 and repeated their act on February 17 against Kumar and some journalists, in open defiance of Supreme Court instructions.

"While one case against Singh pertains to the February 15 incident, the other relates to the attack which took place two days later," the senior official said.

I don't think this agitation will die down so soon. It has now become a boiling issue and is in the midst of a new revolution in India and has been inspired just like the revolution going on in the Middle East. We all know to well that the Middle East revolution is still a hot bed and India wants to be in the same slot / limelight too with the youngsters pre-dominantly wanting to make their voice heard. We all know too well by now who are the supporters and dividers of our country and what are their intentions. Authentic raw stock footages from various channels too don't seem to come to a conclusion because a section of our society wants to dig themselves into popularity. The lawyers have taken things into their own hands which is bad for our democracy. The earlier this is resolved the better.

You are right - the lawyers are not above the law, they are supposed to be the protectors of the law.

Now, get the information out of them as to on whose order they were acting.

For the first time in the history people asking security to surrender to police.
For the first time in history lawyers attack accused inside the court premises in front of the judges.
For the first time in history so many students are booked on sedition cases.
This is the gift to the people by the NDA rule.
The saddest part is that days are not far of people losing trust on judiciary

Lawyers who are supposed to advocate to protects the citizens human rights enshrined in the constitution are themselves going against it.
    What a tragedy! It's like:-
    1. Police becoming thieves and murders.
    2. Doctors/Medical practitioners becoming killers.
    3. Teachers becoming misguiders and radicalizers.
Is there any hope? Who have to act?

    JK,

Are you saying that all lawyers are saints and patriots.

    C'mon grow up my friend!!!

For money, some lawyers will go to any extent to condemn innocent person and let the criminal go scot-free.

When one is loyal towards his/her profession then only can he be loyal to the nation. When one betrays people, he betrays the nation. A nation, a country is formed by the people. Not only that, he betrays his lawyer’s profession.

Recently, in JNU and elsewhere many professors, majority of them Hindus and other intellectuals have suggested that the Kashmir issue be settled by referendum and the right of Kashmiris be honoured. But, why the Govt is silent on them is a mystery to us. Why are they not arrested ? Or are they talking within constitutional rights ?

Is he a patriot beating his fellow Indians? Earlier British divided the society and ruled, and now the same trend is continuing in the name of religion, caste, patriotism. What kind of development is this? If an Indian is ashamed to be called as an Indian, then there is really something wrong! Wake up call for all of us!

A BJP lawmaker from Rajastan, Gyandev Ahuja has come out with a new report that one can find daily in JNU, 3000 beer cans and bottles, 2000 Indian liquor bottles, 10000 cigarette butts, 4000 beedies, 50000 bone pieces, 2000 wrappers of chips, 3000 USED CONDOMS AND 500 ABORTION INJECTIONS.
He also said these condoms are used to do misdeed with our sisters and daughters (but not said that it is done by our brothers and sons)
They say there are 5000 girl students in JNU and if 500 abortion injections are used daily, every girl uses an abortion injection once in 10 days on an average.
This is, according to him to justify that these students are traitors. Also, there is a ridiculed news that BJP is counting used condoms. This information is from newspapers.

Is this BJP lawmaker from Rajastan a Rag-picker ?
Otherwise how could he know the exact number of Cigarette butts, beedies, bones, wrappers, cool drink cans besides used condoms and liquor bottles?
Anyway what is the student strength staying in Hostels in JNU campus, and compare it with the number of above rags found by Rajasthani-BJP rag picker. This will prove that what Rajasthani told is blatant lie.
