Temperature dips in Himachal after rain, snow


Shimla, Feb 20 (IANS): Temperature dropped across Himachal Pradesh on Saturday with high-altitude areas getting more spells of snow while other parts have been experiencing rains, the weather office said.

Shimla and nearby areas like Kufri and Narkanda have been experiencing moderate rains. Picturesque tourist resort Manali saw the minimum temperature sliding to 4.8 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in the state capital was 8.4 degrees Celsius with overnight rainfall of 12.5 mm.

Kalpa, 250 km from Shimla, and Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district recorded the night temperature at minus one degree and minus 0.1 degree Celsius, respectively.

Kalpa saw 27 mm rain, while it was 30.5 cm snow in Keylong, 41.2 mm rain in Manali and 16 mm rain in Dalhousie, which saw a low of 5.6 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office has forecast snow and rain across the state due to active western disturbance till Sunday.

Western disturbance is a term used for a storm system that generates in the Mediterranean and brings rain or snow in the northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent.
