Udupi, Sep 17: A senior citizen was strangled to death in her house at Parika-Thimpayi of Atrady near here on Saturday September 15 afternoon.

Varija Shedti (65), wife of the late Shyamray Shetty was living alone in her house near Parika.  She was found murdered in her house on Saturday September 15 evening and the police reports said that she might have been murdered between 1.30 in the afternoon and 6.30 in the evening.  Sources said that 8 sovereigns of gold which was on her body was missing and hence it is suspected that it could be the handiwork of some thieves.

Her son Rajesh's house is close to her house and she used to go to his house for sleeping in the night. Varija’s another son is working abroad. During the day she used to be in her house alone.  But on Saturday when she did not come to Rajesh's house, her brother-in-law Arvin Shetty and others started searching for her.

She was finally found murdered on her bed in the house.  Gold ornaments which were on her body were missing indicating robbery.  The Hiriyadka police have registered a case in this regard.
