Mangalore, Sep 15: Lots of people have died of AIDS. Within a span of six months, nearly 85 people including 20 women have died of this disease in Dakshina Kannada district alone, informed M Maheshwar Rao, deputy commissioner and president, HIV/AIDS Management Committee.

Rao revealed these figures at the HIV/AIDS management committee meeting held in the DC office here, on Friday September 14.

He further urged the local organizations to intensify the awareness campaign, so that the percentage of AIDS affecting people will be lessened to a great extent.

Rao also requested the public to treat HIV patients with courtesy like others and not to discriminate against them.
