Puttur, Sep 14: In a heart-rending incident, a mother pushed her two children into a pond before ending her life at Boodjalu near Nidle here on Thursday September 13.

Jayanthi (29), wife of Devappa Gowda of Boodjalu committed suicide after pushing her two children Kartik (4) and Kaushik (2) in the pond.  The incident had taken place in the early hours of Thursday.  But no one knew about it.  But when the neighbours started searching them after not spotting them from Wednesday, they found 3 bodies in the nearby pond.

Jayanthi was the daughter of Jinnappa Gowda of Bailette in Kaniyoor here.  She had been given in marriage to lorry driver Devappa Gowda 6 years ago.  Theirs was a happy family with no problems.  There was a cordial relationship between Devappa and Jayanthi.

So it has become a mystery for Boodjalu residents about this mass suicide.  Jayanthi always seemed happy and there were no indications of her suddenly committing suicide.

Uppinangady police have registered a murder case against Jayanthi for having pushed her children to pond.
