Mangalore, Sep 13: A paper entitled ‘Hydraulic conductivity tests on large scale subsurface barriers,’ was presented by NITK Dean (Planning and Development), professor S G Mayya at the international conference on ‘Hydraulic measurements and experimental methods,’ at Lake Placid in New York from September 10 to 12. This international conference was organized by ASCE & EWRI, USA.

The paper on hydraulic conductivity tests is based on the research work carried out in the hydraulics laboratory in NITK, by Uday Kumar, head of the department of civil engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte, who has completed his research studies on sub-surface barriers as water conservation structure.  This research study has been done under the guidance of prof S G Mayya. Sub-surface barrier is basically a method of retaining ground water table high over long periods of time in lateritic formations of the coastal regions.
