Mangalore, Sep 11: The MCC authorities have demolished an illegal compound wall that was built by the road at Ujjody here on Tuesday, September 11 afternoon.

The wall was constructed by the general public between Ujjody and Suvarna Lane in 1981. In the later days MCC had issued notice to the concerned parties to demolish the compound wall, as it was illegally built.

However, the residents collectively challenged the notice in the court. But the court has given a verdict in favour of MCC. Accordingly, the MCC officials demolished the compound wall on Tuesday with the help of police security.

It is a welcome step taken by the MCC to demolish the illegal structures in Mangalore as it is developing at break neck speed. However MCC should apply the rules to all the violators rather than for few as it is bound to send wrong signals of victimisation and give room to politics. There are so many structures which have come up blatantly violating the rules are they also going to demolish them?
