AP: Kapu protest for BC status turns violent, train set afire

Kakinada/Vijayawada/Hyderabad, Jan 31 (PTI): The stir by Kapu community members seeking reservation under Backward Class category turned violent today with agitators setting four coaches of Ratnachal Express on fire at Tuni railway station in East Godavari district, disrupting train movement on the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam section.

However, timely intervention of railway officials ensured that no passenger suffered injuries in the incident, said Vijayawada Station Manager N Suresh Babu.

He said the agitators, gathered at Tuni to attend a public meeting addressed by their leader and ex-minister Mudragada Padmanabh, pelted stones at the train and attacked some police personnel, before ransacking the railway station.

The demonstrators also blocked portion of national highway 16, bringing vehicular traffic between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada to a halt in afternoon.

According to a release issue by South Central Railway, Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam Ratnachal Express was stopped at 15.20 hours between Tuni and Hamsavaram railway stations on Rajahmundry – Visakhapatnam section of Vijayawada Division by 'Kapunadu Garjana' agitators who sat on the track, climbed on the locomotive and damaged hose pipe/ glasses of the locomotive.

The incident forced authorities to stop all trains running between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada stations, causing a huge inconvenience to passengers.

South Central Railway CPRO M Umashankar Kumar said, "After the passengers in the coaches got down from the train, four coaches were set on fire. However, passengers are safe".

The agitators also damaged police vehicles in the area and set ablaze at least two of them.

Confirming the incident, state Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R P Thakur told PTI: "They have set on fire four bogies of the train besides damaging some police vehicles including torching two police vehicles. Our people are trying to control the situation. Additional forces have been rushed to the spot".

According to sources, one police constable sustained injuries in stone pelting at the spot.

In view of the agitation, at least 15 passenger trains running on the Vijayawada-Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam section of Vijayawada division have been regulated.

Meanwhile, Padmanabh held Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu "responsible" for the situation.

"Chandrababu is solely responsible for present situation as he has driven Kapus to streets in frustration by giving them false promises of inclusion in BC category. Let the CM realise the gravity of the situation," Padmanabh said at the meeting.

    A very good view point..,
Out of 85% what is the percentage of upper class (may be 5%-10% or less). It seems there is a lot of opportunity for patidar's/jat's/obc/sc/st's.
At present the upper class would have occupied more than 20%..., correct me if i am wrong.
Khudo's jeevan.., really a through provoking idea to accommodate more & more OBC's among & within majority.

Why do you want less reservation for Hindus ?
    In Central govt:
    15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27.5% for OBC= total 50%.
Remaining 50% is shared by all being general candidates. Considering the merit equal in each community, Hindus get 42.5%, being 85% of the population. That means first 50% and general 42.5% = total 92.5% goes to Hindus. It is the reality.

    @ Santan,

With your enlightening calculation logic..., I feel my point of view carry more significance to say the least that who take/claim these 42.5%.
In Hindustan first we must ascertain upper cast % & lower cast %
In my opinion lower cast consists of at least 75%, muslims 16% & christians may be 1.3% others may be upper class (aprox 7-7%)
If we apply Jeevan's population % logic then OBC/SC/ST's are under represented.

..every one will start agitation for quota, unless it is targetted basically on financially poor section..but no one dares to speak even media wont help, instead tarnish image if suggestion given..quota/reservation is a curse, unless it targets financially weaker section..an upper caste men not born with extra large brain & golden spoon in mouth, thousands of them poor..its funny that CM SIDHU, HM PARAMU, MP, MLAs son, daughters also eleigible for quota in university seat,jobs..AMBEDKAR said quota/reservation should gradually become ZERO..instead in 67 years it multifolded..

People of Hindustan are waiting since May 2014 for -
    1. 15 lacs
    2. Development & Growth
    3. Employment

What we see now is the frustration..., one can call it as for reservation, but the deep within is the sense of inequality & injustice.
Conclusion: Ullu banaawing don't work any longer.
"One can fool - all the people for sometime, some people for all the time but not all the people for all the time"
