Pleasant Sunday in Delhi, mercury to drop on Monday

New Delhi, Jan 31 (IANS): The national capital, despite a foggy start and cloudy conditions throughout the day, experienced a pleasant Sunday with maximum temperature settling one notch below the season's average at 21.5 degrees Celsius, Met office said. Monday is likely to be more chilly.

The weather office has forecast a slight drop in the minimum temperature on Monday and coming days as the western disturbance, which caused sudden rise in the mercury, has passed from the northern part of the country.

"There would be shallow to moderate fog on Monday morning and forenoon while the sky may remain clear throughout the day," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 22 and 11 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Sunday's minimum temperature was recorded at 14.4 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average while the maximum humidity was 100 percent.

The visibility at 8.30 a.m. was recorded 500 metre.

As many as 12 trains including Vikramshila Express, Magadh Express, and Mahabodhi Express were running late due to fog in and around Delhi, the Northern Railways said.

The flight operations, however, were unaffected.

Saturday's maximum temperature settled at 27.2 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average.
